The modern classic
Oaxaca Old Fashioned
Phil Ward's 2007 Death and Co drink put mezcal on cocktail menus everywhere. Reposado does the body, mezcal does the smoke, agave does the sweet.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz reposado tequila
- 1/2 oz BNAAA Mezcal
- 1 tsp agave nectar
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Orange peel
Made with BNAAA Mezcal, the mezcal in every recipe here.
Method
- Stir everything with ice for 25 to 30 seconds.
- Strain over a large cube in a rocks glass.
- Express the orange peel over the drink. The original flames it: hold a lit match between the peel and the glass and squeeze.
- Drop the peel in.
Tip. Flip the ratio to 1 1/2 oz mezcal and 1/2 oz reposado when you want it fully smoky.
